Description
XML (eXtensible Markup Language) is basically a markup language like MARC. However, XML is a much more verbose, and human friendly markup format, and as such, easier for users to manipulate. Like Dublin Core, XML has been quickly finding a niche set of users. In version 4.1, I have formally adopted the Library of Congress's MARC21 to XML schema. Fortunately, this schema is really not much different from my original schema (the difference basically be the exclusion of a "-" labels), so this should be familiar to anyone that looked at the original XML schema. Why modify the XML schema? Well, the primary reason is compatiblity. I have a feeling that most software vendors will eventually move to accept the Library of Congress' schema as the standard.
